Charges have been dropped against a Virginia Tech professor accused of hitting a bicyclist with his car on campus and then leaving the scene.
Peter Wallenstein is a history professor at Virginia Tech. The accident happened on February 19 at the intersection of West Campus Drive and Perry Street.

By statements given (according to news accounts) the bicyclist rode into the rear fender of the car. On the surface it would seem possible that the professor didn't know that something had hit him...that he may have thought, just citing an example that he may have bumped a curb.
Nonetheless, and again I state this based solely on media reports, this charge didn't have the appearance of being solid from day 1.
Having said that, if we could now come up with a way to teach these children to pay attention to their surroundings and not just walk or ride out into an intersection willy-nilly then Blacksburg might be a tad bit safer. I will also state that as they stand our walk/don't walk signs in downtown Blacksburg are a waste of electricity as they hardly ever are observed....in fact I see them get "flipped off" more than I see them obeyed!
