Steven Dale Branscome, who was apprehended early Sunday morning in New Boston, Texas, waived extradition Monday in a Texas court and will be heading back to West Virginia to face the first of numerous charges stemming from the shooting of a Virginia State Trooper.
According to officials, West Virginia will try Branscome first, since the most serious charges took place in their jurisdiction.
Branscome was charged by West Virginia law enforcement officials with malicious wounding and wanton endangerment of shooting Trooper Richard Hughes on March 28, 2008.
Branscome is also facing numerous charges in Virginia and North Carolina.
The Bowie County (Texas) Jail reported that Branscome is currently under a suicide watch after he attempted to hang himself in the back of a patrol car by using the seat belts following his arrest.
Police are also looking into the possibility he had help during his trip of eluding police in several states.
