The City of Radford, in partnership with its Tourism Advisory Committee, is thrilled to announce the launch of its tourism-focused website: www.visitradford.com.
The site, which was designed by Professional Networks of Galax, is intended to be ‘one-stop shopping’ for all things tourism related and will show visitors that they really can ‘Find it in Radford;’ including detailed information on area attractions, restaurants, lodging, retail shops, and performing/visual arts, planetarium, and athletic offerings at Radford University, among others. Some of the highlighted area attractions include information on ‘Round the Mountain Craft Trail, the Wilderness Road, outdoor recreation opportunities on the New River and across Radford, and the City’s proximity to both the Appalachian Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway.
Interested visitors to the site can request more information or use the “Trip Planner,” a Google Maps-powered feature that provides detailed directions on getting from one destination to the next.
Www.visitradford.com is also a place where everyone, including Radford residents, can go to find upcoming events across the City. This Calendar will include everything from the Main Street Radford’s After Five Concert Series to Movies in the Park listings, racing events at Motor Mile Speedway, plays and performances at Radford University, and so much more. It will also provide detailed information on yearly events like the Fourth of July celebration, Highlanders Festival, Festival of Lights, and Radford Heritage Days. Local businesses are also able to directly submit their own events, such as live music, for posting to the website.
Radford’s Tourism Coordinator, Deb Cooney, says she sees the website as the foundation for the City’s tourism efforts, which began about nine months ago.
“I believe the website will not only show potential visitors why they should make us a stop on their next trip, but will also be a site that residents regularly go to keep up to-date on events and also to plan visits for family and friends.”
City Manager Tony Cox added, “The tourism website and accompanying marketing efforts will be a cornerstone of economic development in Radford. Bringing more visitors – and their dollars – to the City will provide a positive economic impact for the entire community.”
