Local Podiatrist Sentenced To Six Month Prison Term Print E-mail
David Grimes

A podiatrist, who practiced in both Blacksburg and Giles County, was sentenced to prison by a West Virginia judge for violating his terms of probation.

Robert Knox was sentenced to six months in prison, three months of home confinement, and faces more than $4,000 in fines, as well a three years of supervised probation when released. Knox must report to prison on May 2.

Knox, who operated the New River Valley Podiatry in Blacksburg and Giles Podiatry & Foot Surgery in Pearisburg, failed to report to probation officials that he was buying these two businesses, which was just one of the four probation violations to occur.

Knox was put on probation in 2006 after pleading guilty to an illegal distribution of a controlled substance. He was also fined $5,000

Under the terms of his original probation, Knox was required to report to his probation officer and “submit a truthful and complete written report within the first five days of each month.” He was also “prohibited from incurring new credit charges or opening additional lines of credit without approval of the probation officer.” Officials say Knox violated the terms by entering into the agreement to buy the practices.

Knox broke the deal with the two new practices when he failed to show up for appointments at both his offices in January and the office managers were forced to lock the doors, as well as paying Dr. Margaret Meredith for the practices.

According to court documents, he also violated probation by failing to make his two hundred dollar monthly payment toward the fine. Court documents showed he hasn’t made a payment since January 8, 2008.
