Tidbits..................My Opinions PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ronald D. Walton
The fun part of doing an opinion piece is that I am the perfect guy to do it. I already know I'm a jerk. I know I am an a**hole and I already know that I have to be right about everything. A good day for me is when someone wants to try an outwit me in a debate by going personal - there is nowhere to go. I admit my issues. So, on with my tidbits of opinion.

Politics. I started this year off supporting Hillary, but that soon faded because it became obvious that Bill was not going to have a say in running the government. Frankly, they should get rid of the two-term deal and let Bill run again. He'd win in a heartbeat. I rode the Obama train for awhile until I started listening to him and figured out he really wasn't saying anything but "change". I'd like to know what he is going to change. Everytime he says "change Washington", I can only hear George Bush saying the same thing 8 years ago. I marked Obama off for good when his minister's rants got some news attention. I'm sorry - if Obama did not agree with the minister - then why the hell did he stick around that Church for 20 years?

How about this - an Al Gore / Mitt Romney independent ticket? Look at the truth of this ticket. Gore has established himself on the world scene and has won the respect of many world leaders as he has traveled about on his Global Warming cause. Perhaps he is what we need to put the U.S. back in the friendly graces in the world and turnaround the damage Bush has caused. Perhaps Gore can build consensus out there. And how about Romney's prowess in the financial world - is he not the man to get the economy turned around? One can only dream I guess.

Media. What's happening over at the local ESPN Radio Station at 1430AM? No more Len Martinez? No more Kyle? No more Drake? Wow. Could it be? Could it be that I was right some several years ago when I said that nobody is going to knock Big Dog SportsTalk off the porch? Now if Big Dog would only get rid of some of the bimbos he puts on the air, he could finish the local ESPN affiliate off for good, especially with Dan Patrick over at 1460 now. ESPN radio, outside of Mike and Mike, is done. You have 4 or 5 guys all talking about the same national sports stories all day.

Also, did anyone see the pictures taken by the Roanoke Times at the Morva trial? Rarely do you see local newspaper photographs capture the soul of a person, but I have to admit that the RT took some awesome shots of Morva and really showed him as the lunatic he must be. The RT better give the photo person a raise because some big outfit will see his work and steal him. We also appreciate the RT for giving us permission to use some of the photos on EverythingNRV.com.

Where are they now? What's going on with all of those people who were filing complaints against the Pulaski Police Department for supposedly allowing UAW members to threaten them, pour nails in the driveway and so on? The National Right to Work Legal website acted like dozens were coming out to complain. Where are they? One big pile of BS is all it was - even though I stand by my assertion that some people in the UAW acted like immature brats and the head of the local should take some action against them. Oh....and you National Right to Work Legal folks.........either pay our guy David or stop using our pictures on your website. They are acting like "Team Xerox", an affectionate name we call the people that continually steal our ideas.

Idiots. Did you see a recent opinion piece on a local website from someone who wrote about health care coverage? His column said it was a travesty how "45,000" Americans were without Heath Care. Huh? Try 45 MILLION pinhead. Actually the number is 47 million and that was in 2005, the latest government data available. I thought someone would eventually see the mistake and correct it. Nope. Stayed up online for 3 weeks. Hey, we all make mistakes.................but we usually hear from someone pointing out the error. What's that old saying of a "tree falling in the woods"???????

From the "Can You Believe It" file. Are you keeping up with this Eric Thompson guy? In case you don't know the name, he is the gentleman that owns TGSCOM, Inc. This is the parent company of sites like www.thegunsource.com as well as other similar sites. His sites are also the ones that sold Cho Seung-Hui the Walther P22 firearm used in the Virginia Tech shootings and also sold Steven Kazmierczak, who killed five people at Northern Illinois University on February 14th, two 9mm Glock magazines and a holster.  My assumption would be that this guy would be all about strengthening the gun laws and 38 dead people would convince him to stop the Internet sales. Nope. This guy is all behind a student group advocating that students and faculty should be allowed to carry weapons on campus to defend themselves. He is working with this group to collect holsters to be used in a rally the week following the April 16th anniversary of the shootings at Tech. So, let me get this straight.....he wants to be able to sell more weapons to people in order to protect themselves from the people he already sold guns to? Is someone other than me seeing it this way?

I am all for people owning guns - although I believe the concealed weapon laws need revamping - but come on. Even gun enthusiasts have to see the wrong in what Eric Thompson is doing.

Just my opinions.

Political tickets; I concur
written by citizen, April 02, 2008
I concur that another ticket-format would be better than what is offered now. It's pitiful; infighting in one party, possible lunacy in another or so candidates. Let's hope people will even feel voting is worthwhile. I've heard more "I'm going to vote against...than "for" anyone. Sad, for the USA. New offerings, yes!
