The Radford-Pulaski Drug Task Force announced this afternoon the names of the 29 individuals they have taken into custody thus far, as a result of yesterday's drug sweep across the New River Valley. A total of 78 indictments were handed out against 57 individuals as a result of a five-month investigation.
In making the announcement, Pulaski Police Chief Gary Roche said he is “encouraged and appreciate the efforts of the task force in the past couple of years and look forward to continuing success in the future.”
The task force allows officers to work together to target drug dealers more rapidly and to share information with other departments of suspected drug activity. The seven member task force’s officers are sworn with special arrest powers with the Virginia State Police, which allows them arrest subjects outside their normal jurisdiction.
Those apprehended thus far include:
Robert Vazquez Derek Griggs Scott Carter Denise Bailey Autumn Weeks Timmy Long Lisa Long David Graham Katherine Olinger Thomas Hoosier Clarence Harris Jonathan Burris Jazzman Edmonds William J. Knode Justin Stith Arthur Wilson Jr. Dajuan Crawford Michael Cook Ricky Boyd Jr. Dorothy Warden Tamara Hicks Freeman Mark Chrisley Chelsi Burnette Heather Taylor Hicks Jason Nelson Donald Ratcliffe Charles Ward Josh Lape Christinia Buckner
During one of the arrests on Thursday, three ounces of marijuana with a street value of $120 an ounce, along with $2800 in cash was confiscated. Also, during another arrest a woman was charged with harboring a fugitive after police came to her house looking for a suspect. The lady claimed she had not seen him. However, police found the suspect inside of her residence.
The drug task force was able to start five new cases as a result of Thursday's bust.
"The work of the drug task force certainly shows when agencies cooperate," said Radford Police Chief Don Goodman. "The spirit of cooperation and dedication to the long hours that these officers put in to make our streets as safe as they can be shows during these roundups."
Due to the indictments being sealed, the names of those arrested cannot be released until all of the suspects are apprehended.
Chief Goodman did say that close to 20 of those indicted reside within the city of Radford.
Conroy urged anyone with any information about suspected drug dealings to contact the Drug Tip Line at (540) 980-7810 or 1-800-553-DOPE (3673).
The Radford - Pulaski Drug force is comprised of law enforcement officers from the Virginia State Police, the Pulaski Sheriff's Department, The Town of Pulaski Police Department, The Town of Dublin Police Department, The City of Radford Police Department and the Commonwealth Attorneys' offices in the City of Radford and the County of Pulaski.
