EverythingNRV.com learned earlier tonight that Volvo Trucks North America and the United Auto Workers reached a tentative agreement on terms of a new three-year agreement that would cover approximately 2,600 UAW members at the New River Valley, VA, plant.
In a news release from Volvo North America representative John Mies, he states that "Further comment about the proposed agreement is being withheld pending ratification by UAW Local #2069. Ratification meetings are being scheduled by the UAW." WSLS Channel 10 is reporting that "union workers will review the contract offer either Friday or Saturday at Edwards Hall at New River Community College". (For Channel 10 story, click here)
WDBJ7 (For Channel 7 story, click here) is reporting that non-union workers came forward today to say they have been harassed by striking workers on the picket line. Based on the interest this same story had in a March 2nd EverythingNRV exclusive (click here for EverythingNRV story), EverythingNRV will be following up on this story with local law enforcement officials and Local 2069 officials tomorrow.
EverythingNRV.com's David Grimes is following up this story with comments and photos of the Union workers as they continue to stand the picket line tonight. We'll have David's report and photos later in the evening.

I am glas you are standing up for what you believe in, that's what we are doing but it's not our fault that you all aren't working we are a union company and it is our right to strike for a good contract, if you aren't happy maybe you should find another job. You chose to work where you are not us!

CAN SOMEONE REALLY TELL ME WHY ALL YOU PEOPLE CARE WHY WE ARE ON STRIKE? IS IT REALLY ANY OF YOUR BUSINESS? BECAUSE BY THE COMMENTS I HAVE READ YOU ALL DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT VOLVO OR WHY THE UAW IS ON STRIKE. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OF THE LOCAL BUSINESSES FOR YOUR SUPPORT! WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT. WE ARE ONLY STANDING UP FOR WHAT WE THINK IS RIGHT. IT IS JUST REALLY FUNNY TO ME ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS BEING MADE ABOUT UNION WORKERS. THE VANDALISM I DO NOT AGREE WITH IT IS WRONG. THE NON UNION WORKERS HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE DECISIONS THAT THEY MAKE. VANDALISM IS NOT THE ANSWER AND WHOEVER IS DOING IT WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH WHAT THEY HAVE DONE ALSO! THOSE PEOPLE ARE GIVING THE UNION A BAD NAME! WE ARE STANDING UP FOR WHAT WE BELIEVE IN AND WE COULD CARE LESS WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK!!!

Lizzie Borden was tried for the brutal axe murders of her father and stepmother in late 19th century New England. Though she was acquitted, the trial stirred pubic interest, and she was widely believed to be guilty. No one else was ever tried, and Borden was ostracized until her death in 1927. The case's notoriety has endured in American pop culture and is still referenced today. What popular poem helped perpetuate the idea that Borden was guilty?
