Over 300 law enforcement personnel, including some from Montgomery County, remain on the Ferrum college campus searching for an individual wearing green clothing and jeans, and carrying a handgun. The lockdown of the campus, as well as the Ferrum elementary school remains in effect. Officials have annouced that parents can pick up their children at the elementary school at 3:00pm. However, parents who pick up their children from school are asked to call the school first. That number is (540) 365-7194.

The situation started off in confusion early this morning when a Ferrum College email alert notified students that there had been a "possible shooting on campus". It is now known that there HAS NOT been a shooting on the campus, but law enforcement remains on the scene searching for an individual reported to be carrying a concealed weapon.

Students were allowed to return to their dorm rooms late this afternoon, but were told that the College remains in lockdown and to stay in their rooms until further notice. While it has not been firmly decided, officials have said they do not expect the lockdown to continue in to Wednesday.
