Virginia Tech Student Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle On Campus Print E-mail
David Grimes

A 20-year-old Virginia Tech died Saturday night after four students were struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk at the intersection of Duckpond Drive and Washington Street.

Christine McNabb, 20, of Manassas, who was a sophomore in the College of Engineering, died after being taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The second student, who was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial was Daniel Budzenski, 19, a sophomore from California, Md.

The two other students, who were also struck, sustained only minor injuries and were not taken to the hospital.

According to Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum, a group of five students were crossing Duckpond Drive at the intersection of Washington Street in a crosswalk at approximately 6:20 p.m., when a 1993 Mercury, operated by Joshua Sales, 20, of Blacksburg, struck four of the students.

Sales, who is not a Virginia Tech student, was charged with an expired registration and not having insurance. Additional charges may be placed after consultation with the Commonwealth's Attorney. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, according to police.

The Blue Ridge Crash Investigation Team, New River Valley Team was called to assist in the investigation. The team is comprised of members of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Christiansburg Police Department, Blacksburg Police Department and the Virginia Tech Police Department.

The accident is still under investigation and anyone who may have information about this accident is urged to contact Virginia Tech Police at (540) 231-6411.
