Afternoon Robbery Leads To Lock Down Of Blacksburg School

A robbery on Harding Avenue in Blacksburg this afternoon led to Harding Elementary School being locked down while police looked for the suspect.

According to Lt. Joe Davis of the Blacksburg Police Department, officers responded to a complaint of a robbery at 1:20 p.m. this afternoon in the 400 block of Harding Avenue.

The investigation revealed that the female victim was walking east on Harding Avenue when an unknown white male approached her from behind. The suspect bumped into the victim strong enough to knock her to the ground. The unknown assailant grabbed the woman’s purse and fled east on Harding Avenue.

The suspect is described as white male, 5-8, medium build, wearing blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.

School officials made the decision to lock down Harding Elementary School after police notified them of the robbery.

Police are continuing their investigation and anyone with any information should contact the Blacksburg Police Department at (540) 961-1150.
