Christiansburg police are continuing their search today for a man who is wanted for breaking into a residence and sexually assaulting a woman late Thursday morning.
According to Christiansburg Police Captain Barry O’Rourke, police received a report at around 10:45 a.m. Thursday morning of a breaking and entering and a sexual assault at a residence in the Warren Court area, off Radford Road.
The victim, an adult female, was taken to an area hospital. Police are not releasing any details on her or what type of injures she may have.
The suspect is described as black male with a light complextion, about 6-1, weighing 170-180 pounds, with tightly braided shoulder length hair. He was wearing baggy, light-colored pants and a dark blue or black hooded sweatshirt.
There is no indication that the suspect had a weapon, according to Capt. O’Rourke.
With Christiansburg Primary School, Middle School and High School all located within a two-mile radius of the crime scene, Montgomery County School Superintendent Tiffany Anderson decided to put the schools on lockdown Thursday as a precautionary measure. The lockdown order was lifted at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
Anderson alerted parents by email of the situation. The alert said there was no threat within the schools and the lockdown was a “precautionary measure as a result of a potential issue within the community.
Police, along with a tracking dog from the Virginia Department of Corrections, have been searching the area neighborhoods. The suspect, who was on foot, was last seen in the Radford Road/Warren Court area this morning.
The suspect is considered dangerous and residents should keep their doors and vehicles locked.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Christiansburg Police Department at (540) 382-3131 or dial 9-1-1.
