Some of the premier basketball teams of the area will be showcasing their talents on Saturday, as Floyd County High School will play host to the first annual Chance Harman Classic.

This event, which was orginally scheduled in December, was moved to this Saturday due to the winter weather on Dec. 15, 2007.

The Classic will be raising money for a scholarship in memory of 4-year-old Chance Harman, son of head Floyd County boys’ basketball coach Brian Harman. Chance passed away on July 6, 2007 with cancer. In addition to the scholarship funds, proceeds will also go to the American Cancer Society.

“There will be some really good match-ups in these games,” said Harman.

The first game will tip-off at 2 p.m. and will feature Graham against Giles; at 3:45 p.m. Glenvar will take on Christiansburg; at 5:30 p.m. Radford will go up against Blacksburg and the final game of the evening, which will start at 7:15 p.m. will feature host Floyd County against Patrick County.

“Basketball fans will get to see some of the best teams in our area and all in one place,” said Harman. “If you love basketball and want to support a great cause, than Floyd County is the place to be on Saturday.

The admission price for the basketball games is $5.

In addition to some great basketball, there will be a BBQ dinner going on as well in the school’s cafeteria. For just $8 (adults) you can enjoy BBQ on a bun, coleslaw, baked beans, chips, homemade dessert and drink. The price is $5 for those 12 and under and takeouts will also be available.

Also, T-shirts will be available as well.

“I hope the weather doesn’t hurt us,” added Harman. “I really think this will be a cool event, very good teams for a great cause.”
