An 85-year-old woman died Sunday morning during a house fire in Blacksburg.

According to the Blacksburg Fire Department, Julia P. Candes died during the fire, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

When firefighters arrived at the residence, which was located at 1824 Brooksfield Road, they found the back porch of the house fully engulfed. Damages were estimated at $35,000 and the fire was quickly extinguished.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
