As we all sit around the table today to celebrate Thanksgiving, there are many individuals and families who will have no meal to partake in, much less a place to gather and enjoy the Holidays, thus several area churches will be providing meals to the community today.
The Grove United Methodist Church, which is located at 1020 Tyler Avenue in Radford, will hold its fourth annual free Thanksgiving meal for the community from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal will consist of turkey and dressing, sweet potatoes, green beans and a variety of homemade desserts. The church is recommending reservations, but they are not required. To make reservations or to arrange for free transportation or to even have a meal delivered to your house, call the church office at 639-2807. “This meal fills a need in the community for those who want to come together for Thanksgiving and to help those who are without,” said Pat Monroe, the church’s Mission Committee chairwoman. "We invite everyone to join us." In addition to the Grove United Methodist Church function, the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, located on Route 114 in Fairlawn, will also be offering a Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. As well as the St. Michael Lutheran Church at 2308 Merrimac Road in Blacksburg, who will be holding a community Thanksgiving Dinner starting at 1 p.m. Photo by David Grimes
