In its continuing efforts to target the abuse of alcoholic beverages within the Pulaski County community, the Town of Pulaski Police Department recently conducted its second round of ABC compliance checks, which resulted in several businesses and employees being charged with selling to underage individuals.
“This round of compliance checks resulted in five establishments being found in violation of ABC regulations and a total of five summonses were issued for store employees that sold these products to underage individuals, said,” chief Gary Roche. In the latest compliance check, the police department targeted commercial establishments which sell alcoholic beverages within the town of Pulaski. The effort consisted of utilizing obviously underage citizens who attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages from retail stores. When asked who the individuals and establishments were, Roche would not release the information yet, since papers were still being served on those involved. The Pulaski Police Department and the Pulaski Community Partners Coalition have collaborated on a grant from the Virginia Alcohol and Beverage Department to target the abuse of alcoholic beverages within the Pulaski County community. A portion of this project specifically targets the availability or acquisition of alcoholic beverages by individuals that are not of legal age to purchase or consume these products. The Pulaski Community Partners Coalition and the Pulaski Police Department are committed to the health and safety of our community's youth. “The use and abuse of alcohol among this population all too often results in senseless tragedies involving injury and death. In addition, alcohol is a gateway product that may lead to the abuse of other illicit or illegal substances,” added Roche. “ It’s very important for everyone to recognize the serious health issues and dangerous personal consequences for youth that engage in the consumption of these products. Their safety is everyone's responsibility.”
