Radford University math professor Wei-Chi Yang recently created The Electronic Journal of Mathematics and Technology (eJMT). Yang says that the online journal, located at https://php.radford.edu/~ejmt, is a valuable medium for high school teachers worldwide to discuss effective ways of implementing technology in their teaching. The use of technology in mathematics varies greatly and the eJMT provides collective worldwide ideas and helps share varying experiences. RU math professor Stephen Corwin was appointed as the managing editor of the journal to maintain the website and handle journal related issues. The eJMT was created in February 2007 by Yang after the continued success of the Asian Technology Conference in Mathematics that he founded in 1995. He realized that there was a need for educators and researchers around the world to have a medium to publish their works anywhere, at anytime. The eJMT primarily addresses technology based issues in all mathematical sciences. The journal features articles about the most recent applications of technology in pure and applied mathematics and in electronic format, including sound and video. “Articles are coming from all over the world,” said Yang. “We have established a large base of audience from over 25 countries.” The journal currently has 18 papers and notes from two volumes. Yang is confident that the journal will continue to grow internationally with the help of his Asian Technology Conference in Mathematics. Initial funding for the eJMT came from Hewlett Packard and encouragement from CASIO. In the future, it will be funded by the member subscriptions.

The Heritage Day festival at Montgomery Museum & Lews Miller Regional Art Center proved a success. With historical re-enactments and live entertainment, the day was filled with plenty of fun. A 2 p.m. scavenger hunt segued the activity to the final Cruisin' Christiansburg of the season. Photos by Larry Middleton |

Charlie "Bird" Parker was an American saxophonist and composer. As a young man, he moved to NYC to pursue a career in music. There, Parker met and played with a group of young musicians in Harlem clubs. In 1945, Parker and Dizzy Gillespie made the first bop (or bebop) records, becoming leaders of the bop movement in jazz. Parker's brilliant improvisations, noted for their power and beauty, soon earned the admiration of countless musicians. At what age did Parker begin playing the saxophone?
