Candidates Speak Out! Print E-mail
EverythingNRV

EverythingNRV.com gave local Montgomery County Candidates a chance to speak out on the eve of the General Election to be held Tuesday, November 6th. Candidates were given 100 words to make their case to the voters.

Citizens are encouraged to speak out by using the "Your Turn" section at the bottom. Please note though that we will not publish negative comments or personal attacks. You can support your candidate.

To determine an order for candidates to be listed, we used a simple method of listing them in order by the time and date they were received. Thanks to the candidates for participating!

Dave Nutter – Candidate for House of Delegates District 7

Dave Nutter will continue to provide strong support to improve and expand educational opportunities for all our citizens…from our great colleges to expanded career and technical education programs.

Working with the NRV Planning Commission Dave Nutter will continue his efforts to bring broadband access to the region.

Dave Nutter was part of the team that helped secure a major grant that will help bring new high-paying jobs to the region.

As the Roanoke Times said in endorsing his reelection, Dave Nutter is an independent thinker and a responsible and effective legislator.

Billy Wiatt – Candidate for Montgomery County Sheriff

It is imperative that a Sheriff has strong communication skills so that they can network with the citizens and business community.  A willingness to work as a team with your employees, county administration, the school system and neighboring jurisdictions is also important.

For 27 years, I have devoted my career to law enforcement.  During that time, I learned first-hand what it takes to operate a well-run, experienced and professional department.   As the Independent candidate for Sheriff, citizens can be assured that politics is not impacting my decisions.

I urge the citizens of Montgomery County to vote for me, Billy Wiatt.

Leigh Ann Teel – Candidate for Commissioner of Revenue

Dear Citizens,

As a native of Montgomery County, I’ve seen firsthand the county’s continual growth and development and I’m concerned about our county’s future.  I possess the necessary talents and skill-set to lead the office well into the future.  I’m committed to ensuring the office has adequate resources and is fully automated to provide optimum service in an ever-growing climate.  I will refine processes and procedures to reduce billing errors, which cost taxpayers lost time and undercut collection efforts.  I bring a fresh perspective to the office, where I can draw from my many years of service with the Virginia Tech community.

I appreciate your vote on November 6.

Leigh Ann Teel

William H. (Bill) Brown – Candidate for Board Supervisors District E

I believe that citizens should vote for me because; I would bring 36 years of local government experience to the Board. I sincerely care about taxpayers, education, public safety, county employees and would work with our legislators to oppose all unfunded mandates placed on local governments. I believe in economic development and smart controlled growth protecting our rural way of life. I have received endorsements from The Montgomery County Education Association, New River Valley Chapter of the Police Benevolent Association and the Roanoke Times. I would be humbled, honored and proud to represent District "E".

  Thanks

William H. " Bill" Brown

Erica Williams – Candidate for Clerk of The Circuit Court

I have the dedication, experience and vision to infuse new ideas, and promise to provide a more modernized, efficient Clerk’s office. My goals are having a more advanced, user-friendly GIS/land record system, implementing an internship program with local colleges, providing a Notary Service for the public, and preserving historical records and preventing them from theft.  I have the endorsements of the Fraternal Order of Police, Police Benevolent Association, Congressman Rick Boucher and Governor Mark Warner.  Please browse my websites at www.ericawilliamsforclerk.com; www.myspace.com/ericawilliamsforclerk. I respectfully ask for and would appreciate your vote and will be honored to serve you as Clerk.

Sheriff Tommy Whitt – Candidate for Sheriff

It has been an honor and privilege to serve Montgomery County as your Sheriff for the past four years.  I have dedicated my entire adult life to serving the citizens of Montgomery County, a total of 31 years certified law enforcement experience.  Through strong leadership and teamwork, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will continue to serve the citizens with integrity, compassion, fairness, and professionalism.
Endorsements: Governor Tim Kaine, Senator John Edwards, Delegate Jim Shuler, Fraternal Order of Police, Police Benevolent Association, and The Roanoke Times.  I respectfully ask for your vote on November 6, 2007.

Thank you,

Sheriff Tommy Whitt

Sharon Gilbert – Candidate for Commissioner of Revenue

My 23 years of service gives me the experience and dedication to continue the duties of the Commissioner of Revenue with responsible leadership.

The Commissioner does not set policies. Duties are defined and set forth by the State Legislatures and the Tax Codes of the Commonwealth.

I have a wealth of knowledgeable by attending seminars and schools offered by the Virginia Department of Taxation.

If re-elected I will continue to offer the citizens the continued professional service they deserve and expect with my dedicated staff of employees with excellent customer service.

Re-elect Sharon Gilbert for Commissioner of the Revenue.

Steve Spradlin – Candidate for Board of Supervisors District E

I look forward to serving our Citizens for another four years. I will continue to work to make our County the best it can possibly be. I believe in working hard, being fair, honest, listening to people, finding commonsense solutions and being accountable; I believe that government should possess these qualities as well. I will continue to oppose efforts to increase the tax burden on my fellow taxpayers. My door remains open to all citizens as we work together for the good of Montgomery County. I respectfully ask for your vote on November 6, 2007. May God bless Montgomery County.

Steve Spradlin, Chairman
Montgomery County Board of Supervisors
District-E

Peggy Frank – Candidate for House of Delegates District 7

"Like many Virginians, I am frustrated with the lack of progress in the House of Delegates.  The current majority has failed to move forward on key issues, including health care, community safety, economic development, and education.  For example, instead of a comprehensive transportation plan, in this last session of the General Assembly we received a partisan gimmick in the form of the abusive driver fees, which my opponent supported.   As your Delegate, I will use my experience as a prosecutor to break through the partisan gridlock and be an independent voice for the New River Valley."

Citizens are encouraged to speak out by using the "Your Turn" section at the bottom. Please note though, we will not publish negative comments or personal attacks. You can support your candidate.
