As the month of July comes to an end and August brings feelings of back-to-school anxiousness, many people are looking for a way to relax and have some fun. Before classes resume and vacation time runs out, why not spend a day at the New River Valley Mall? At the intersection of Route 460 and Peppers Ferry Rd., in Christiansburg, lies the New River Valley Mall. It has 48 retail outlets, - including all kiosks - an Air Force recruiting office, five locations to satisfy your hunger after a day of shopping, five spots to stop and get a quick hair-cut, a place to pamper yourself with a manicure or pedicure and even a place to learn martial arts techniques - including Muay Thai, a Southeast Asian martial art that uses eight points of contact. An outlaying Regal Cinema is home to 14 big screen's with stadium seating reclining chairs with ample room for popcorn and a drink. With the movement of the theaters from inside the mall to this new building, New River Community College will soon be using the available spaces inside the mall for classrooms. According to their website, http://www2.nr.edu/mall/, "The new location at New River Valley Mall will feature seven classrooms, four computer labs, one science lab, two auditoriums, testing and conference rooms and office spaces. The college’s new game technology programs and computer aided drafting and design programs will be based solely at this site. Other college offerings will include general education courses that transfer to four-year colleges and universities, and more!" Soon to grace the property lying next to the New River Valley Mall is an array of stores and restaurants. Bed, Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Old Navy, PetSmart, Banfield, Staples and Shoe Carnival will be among the stores available for your shopping convenience. Olive Garden and Panera Bread will soon join the ranks with Ryan's, IHOP, Red Robin and Red Lobster as some of your dining choices around the mall. Come spend a day at the mall at enjoy the vacation away from home without having to leave the area. Have breakfast at IHOP, buy a new outfit at Pacific Sunwear, polish that outfit off with a new pair of shoes from Foot Locker, pick up the latest tunes or flicks at FYE, then visit Belk or Bath & Body Works for perfume and cologne - after all, your new outfit makes you amazing, you should smell that way, too! Finish off your day with a trip to Red Robin for one of their famous burgers. And, if you can handle it, a cone of ice cream from Dairy Queen should top everything quite nicely.
