A former employee for the Montgomery County treasurer’s office, along with a former bank employee with SunTrust, were just two of 18 people recently indicted on 40 various charges by the Montgomery County grand jury which met on October 24.
Tammie Shepherd Lawson, who was employed as a senior tax technician in the treasurer’s office, of Christiansburg was indicted on one count of embezzlement, which took place between February 1, 2006 and Sept. 6, 2007 while she was employed as a tax technician in the Montgomery County Treasurer’s office. It is still unknown as to the exact amount taken, however, officials estimate it was around $8,000. Jennifer Ann Duncan of Christiansburg was also indicted one count of embezzlement. The alleged offense took place between Nov.1, 2005 and June 28, 2007, while Duncan was employed at SunTrust Bank. Tamara Hicks Freeman of Christiansburg was indicted on 11 counts of forgery and one count of credit card fraud. Derek Nathan Bacque of Blacksburg was indicted on one count of attempted robbery and one count of malicious wounding. Both offenses took place on August 19, 2007. Other indictments included credit card theft, grand larceny, drug possession, assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and destruction of property to name a few.
