There's Plenty To Do This Weekend In The NRV Print E-mail

From area high school football games to a big fundraiser for Patrick Day, there is plenty to do this weekend across the New River Valley and beyond.

Friday

Oktoberfest continues tonight and Saturday at Mountain Lake Resort in Giles County. Activities run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. both nights.

Area high school football action continues will the following games scheduled: Bland County at Narrows (7 p.m.); East Mont at Floyd County; Radford at Auburn; Glenvar at Giles (Homecoming); Salem at Blacksburg; Christiansburg at Hidden Valley; and Cave Spring at Pulaski County. All games start at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Billy Ray Cyrus, who is famous for “Achy Breaky Heart” is in concert at the Salem Civic Center starting at 8 p.m.

Saturday

The Radford and Pulaski Farmer’s Market will start up at 8 a.m..

Virginia Tech will be sponsoring “Family Day” starting at 9 a.m. in the Squires Student Center.

There will also be a craft fair and bake sale starting at 9 a.m. at the Elliston-Lafayette Elementary School. Also included is a silent auction, a raffle and lots of activities for everyone.

The Pumpkin Festival continues today at Sinkland Farms on Route 8 in Riner. All the fun starts off at 10 a.m. and continues to 5 p.m.

Since the weather is still nice for this time of the year, why not take in an outdoor movie tonight at Radford’s Bisset Park starting at 7:30 p.m.

There is a also a big fundraiser starting at 6 p.m. at Blacksburg High School for Patrick Day, a student at the school, who was paralyzed earlier in the year from a stroke of the spinal cord.

The event will include a raffle for VT memorabilia, a silent auction for many Virginia Tech items, including a lunch pail signed by Coach Bud Foster, t-shirt sales and various activities throughout the evening. There will also be a slam dunk contest including judges Marcus Travis and Deron Washington from the Virginia Tech basketball team, former BHS soccer athlete Dustin Bond and the legendary Sidney Snell will also be on hand.


Sunday

After attending the church of your choice, the Pumpkin Festival at Sinkland Farms continues starting at 1 p.m.

The 19th Annual Rowdy Dawg Mountain Bike Race gets underway at 11 a.m.

There will also be a Start Heart Walk at Radford’s Bisset Park starting at 1:30 p.m.
