On August 23rd, Patrick Day, a Blacksburg High student, was stricken with a stroke of the spinal cord. He is one of three teenagers in the world to suffer from this injury.  The stroke has left him paralyzed and he’s currently at the Kluge Rehabilitation Center for Children in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The out-of-pocket costs associated with Patrick’s condition are enormous.  The Advanced Sports Marketing Program at Blacksburg High School and St. Paul AME Church have teamed together to assist Patrick and his family. On Saturday, October 20, 2007, they are hosting a fundraising event called “Play for Patrick” presented by ServPro. The event will be held from 6pm to 9pm at Blacksburg High School in the gym.

Several activities and competitions are planned along with a raffle for donated memorabilia, concessions and a “Play for Patrick” t-shirt will be sold specifically for this event. Tickets will be $5 at the door. Approximately 100% of the event proceeds will be given to Patrick and his family.

Sponsorships are still available. If interested, please contact Trey Gresh, Sponsorship Director, or Kim Radford, Marketing Teacher, at 951-5706.
