May 17th. This will be the second year of the popular Tour de Floyd bicycle ride. It will be held the third Saturday in May. The Tour de Floyd is a scenic 62-mile ride, with half of the route on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Ride is limited to the first 250 participants. Proceeds go to local emergency services. |

On Sunday, May 18th Floyd County Rescue Squad will be hosting an Open House from 12 - 5 pm at Station 1. Station 1 is located on Floyd Hwy N (Rte 221), just outside of town limits. Carilion LifeGuard's high-tech medical helicopter is scheduled to arrive at 1pm (weather and emergency calls permitting). During the event, there will be brief discussions on medical topics such as, ICE (In Case of Emergency), controlled bleeding, and preparing patients for transport. There will be free gifts for the first 100 children under the age of 8. Live bluegrass and gospel music will be provided by local musicians, including Scott Perry, Boyd Family Ministries, and others.
