The right-hand northbound lane of the 900 block of North Main Street, (near the intersection of Progress Street), will be closed tomorrow, Friday, November 21st from 7:00am to 5:00pm. This is to allow the installation of a guardrail along the box culvert. Flaggers will be provided to direct traffic through the area. For more information, call Randy Formica at (540) 961-1126. |

The 3000 block of Shadowlake Road, (near intersection with Meadowbrook Drive), will be closed November 17th to the 21st from 7:00am to 5:00pm in order for a contractor to replace the guardrail on the bridge. The calendars are free to citizens, and can be picked up at the Cashier's Window in the Blacksburg Municipal Building (300 South Main Street) or at the Blacksburg Rec Center (Patrick Henry Drive). The 2009 calendar features historic structures in the Sixteen Squares. |

BHS DECA members Minoka Gunesekera, Anna Smith and Marissa Fraley are leading a service project called “Home for the Holidays”. Originating as a small service project last year, the student leaders want to provide 175 elementary children living in Montgomery County who receive free or reduced lunch nutritious breakfast food over the winter holidays. |

Blacksburg Town Forum

Thursday, December 4th at 7:00pm in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers located in the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 South Main Street. This event offers a chance for students and community members to join the dialogue about alcohol-influenced behavior on campus and in the local community. There will be presentations by representatives from the Blacksburg Police Department, Virginia Tech Police Department, Virginia ABC, Judicial Affairs, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and the College Alcohol Abuse Prevention Center. Following the presentations, there will be time for questions and comments. Students, faculty, staff, neighborhood association members, landlords, property managers, and interested members of the community are encouraged to attend. This activity is presented by the Town Gown Community Relations Committee. December 1st from 11:00am to 2:00pm. The Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for their new Fitness Room. This event is open to the public to see the new and improved fitness area and all of the new fitness equipment that will soon be available to the public. The Community Center is located at 725 Patrick Henry Drive in Blacksburg. After the Grand Opening then there will be a small charge to use the Fitness Area - 30 time pass for $35. Blacksburg Christmas Event

December 7th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Downtown Blacksburg goes dramatic as the holiday parade spills into downtown; the town tree is illuminated on Henderson Lawn; and Santa pays his magical visit to the Lyric Theatre for the traditional family photo shoot. This event will be rain, shine or snow unless the weather is dangerous. In the event that the parade is postponed the other activities will carry on as scheduled. |
