The iconic swoosh and phrase “Just do it” are known throughout the world, and on Friday Radford University graduate and NIKE global marketing director Steven Boyd spoke to a packed room at RU’s Bonnie Hurlburt Student Center auditorium.

The City of Radford proudly honored all veteran’s of military service on a day set aside for such respect, but many of the day’s activities honored Radford favorite son and war hero Col. John Walter Ripley, who died at his Maryland home about two weeks ago.

The banner hangs across Main Street in Downtown Radford proclaiming November 11 as John Ripley Day, as the city planned to celebrate their native son’s heroic duty in Vietnam. Ripley, died over the weekend at his home in Annapolis, Maryland.
