VDOT has these and other projects going this week. Weather permitting, crews will paint lines along Route 100 in Giles and Pulaski Counties. Work will be performed during daylight hours on weekdays. Drivers should expect mobile lane closures. Weather permitting, drivers should expect paving on Route 8 in Floyd and Montgomery Counties starting about five miles from Route 669. Paving may impact traffic on weekdays during nighttime hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Watch for signs and pilot trucks. Expect delays. Was your road scheduled to be improved in the Virginia 2009-2014 Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program? It may no longer be on the list, as the Virginia Department of Transportation had to delay or completely remove several projects across the New River Valley, due to the lack of funding. |

More than 16,000 tickets were written, including 725 from the New River Valley, during the 2008 Fourth of July weekend by the Virginia State Police. Also, 12 individuals lost their lives across the Commonwealth during the same time span. |
