The Virginia State Police are now investigating the death of Randall Lee Smith, who was found unresponsive in his jail cell Saturday evening, and later died. Sgt. Michael Conroy of the Virginia State Police told EverythingNRV.com Monday afternoon that the State Police have been asked to conduct the investigation surrounding Smith’s death at the New River Valley Regional Jail. |

May 11 marked the 100th anniversary of the first official Mother’s Day celebration in the United States. The holiday was started by Anna Jarvis of Grafton, West Virginia who called for a day to honor all mothers. In order to celebrate this time honored tradition, U.S. Cellular associates from the Roanoke business office and U.S. Cellular retail locations in the area organized a card making event at the local Boys and Girls Club on 9th Street in Roanoke. |
