Friday will be a day in which a lot of people in Pulaski County and throughout the New River Valley will be dreading, as the first round of layoffs at the Volvo Dublin plant begins. It was originally announced that 1,100 people would be laid off starting May 16 and that the New River Valley plant would switch to a single shift. However, that number is a little lower than first announced. |

Come Friday, 1,100 employees at the New River Valley Volvo Plant will be unemployed, as the previously announced layoffs will start taking place. “The layoffs will take place starting Friday,” said Volvo spokesman Jim McNamara in a phone interview Monday afternoon with EverythingNRV.com. |

A fire at the old Pulaski Furniture plant Thursday night did minor damage to the boiler room building. The Pulaski Fire Department responded to the building at around 9 p.m. and when they arrived, they observed flames coming from the roof and asked for additional help from Dublin and Newbern. |
