More than 200 people attended Thursday evening’s joyous Second Annual Juneteenth "Rhythms of Freedom" celebration at Smithfield Plantation, in Blacksburg. Juneteenth is a time for the African American community to celebrate its freedom, achievements, and the legacy of it's struggles and hopes for the future. It proved to be a reverent, yet exuberant event, attended by folks of many ethnicities and ages. |

The Blacksburg Police Department is asking for your assistance in helping solve a rash of vandalism to several commercial buildings, along with 25 vehicles, which were spray painted early this morning in the north end of Blacksburg. |

As the online movement expands, United Way of Montgomery, Radford & Floyd is one of the first to get connected. Out of 1,400 local United Way organizations in the country, our own local United Way is the 13th to establish it’s own MySpace cause, and the 54th to establish it’s own Facebook cause. It is also the first “small” United Way to adopt Volunteer Solutions, an online, searchable database of local volunteer opportunities. The new online presence will no doubt foster community engagement, as well as reach a whole new generation of young people. |

A Blacksburg man was charged with reckless driving after the tractor-trailer he was driving struck a parked Virginia State Police cruiser, injuring the trooper, along Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County Monday morning. |
