In Our Schools: Could Montgomery County School Superintendent Tiffany Anderson be leaving her job for another? I certainly can't blame her, but the Board of Supervisors needs to step up and try to keep her. Overall, her perfomance has been good even though some people would take exception with that. And to those people and to those people griping about the 8.6% raise for teachers.......I say "shut up" and home school your brat.

Winners and Losers.............Just My Opinion PDF Print E-mail

Sooooooo, what happened at Giles High School during a Relay for Life event this past Saturday night? Our sources are telling us today that a good time was had by all........maybe too good of time? The secret is not safe with us as we are digging into this story.

Lots of politically charged happenings on Tuesday. A few surprises here and there in the election results, but the real loser of the day was the political process itself. When only 12 or 13 percent of the registered voters actually vote, then one must come to the realization that over 90% of the population doesn't care. Seriously. Think about that.

8.6% raise for Montgomery County teachers. GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!! It's still not enough with what you deal with and the lives we put into your hands to mentor, train and teach. How about 10% next year? The issue here is not the size of the raise, but how quickly we can pay our teachers what they are really worth!

Town Officials' Explanations Coming Out of Dreamland.............My Opinion PDF Print E-mail

The Christiansburg Town Council has some issues, and it doesn't appear they are in any hurry to correct them. The problems are so many it seems, that nobody could sit down and write just a few paragraphs about it all. It would be more like a novel. Thus, I'll keep my comments and opinions down to a short few, all timely before the elections next week.

Another strike? Workers at Federal Mogul in Blacksburg have hit the picket lines this morning. The plant is located in the Blacksburg Industrial Park. Local Union 2533 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Union (IAMAW) is on strike because of wages. However, this strike is somewhat different than that of the UAW strike on Volvo just a few weeks ago. The UAW strike was over a new contract as the old one had expired. This strike is over a 4 year contract only in its second year. Hey, if you agreed to it and if they are honoring it, get your butt back to work.
