This newsletter is my hardest to write because it reflects heavy-duty decisions that have had to be made by the House of Delegates this week. The choices between raising taxes and setting priorities are never easy. I personally believe that the people in my district do not need any tax increase with the economic downturn and the increase in utility and living costs. |

This week was crossover, which always comes at the half-way point of General Assembly Session. Crossover, which this year fell on Tuesday, February 12, is the day in which all House bills must be communicated to the Senate and all Senate bills to the House. This meant a lot of work on the House floor. The Session convened on Monday at ten a.m., and we did not finish debate and floor votes until just before eight p.m. |

This past week was a busy one; we are approaching cross-over – the final day for all legislation to be voted upon by its House of origin – and this means much longer days. Monday we begin early, and we will likely be in session well into the evening. The Senate will debate and vote on the remainder of their bills and communicate them to the House of Delegates before Wednesday, and the House must do the same. |

Greetings once again from Richmond! We had visitors from the Sixth District in the office throughout the week, and we are always glad to see familiar faces. The Commissioners of Revenue had a Legislative Day on Tuesday and we were happy to welcome Giles County Commissioner Anne Chambers and Bland County Commissioner Cindy Wright. That same day, County Treasurers were in Richmond and Wythe County Treasurer Sam Crockett paid us a visit. |

This has been a busy week. Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day and there were a record number of Virginia citizens, including hundreds of school children, visiting our beautiful State Capitol. |
