Teams of trained volunteers work with the Red Cross and Community Services Board to develop, train for, and deliver disaster mental health support services. The CDRC was founded in 2001 after the September 11th terrorist attacks and operates under the auspices of A-kee, Inc. (a private non profit organization dedicated to mental health services and education). This team served in the Wolf Creek Floods in Giles County Virginia.We train people from all walks of life to serve as disaster support team members. CDRC team members take an 8 hour training program and go through a security background check in order to receive their CDRC identification badge and CDRC apparel. We participate in local and regional drills with other agencies and first responders. Team members who gain experience can become team leaders, serve as disaster administrative director, and CDRC instructors. |
