Description:

OUR MISSION:  NRV CARES is dedicated to protecting children from abuse and strengthening families through education, advocacy and community partnerships.

OUR VISION: NRV CARES' vision is to reduce child abuse in the New River Valley.

OUR ORGANIZATION:  The result of a merger in 2004 between CASA of the New River Valley and Prevent Child Abuse Now (PCAN), NRV CARES provides advocacy and programs for children and families.

Counties/Areas Served:
*Montgomery County
*Radford City
*Floyd County
*Giles County
*Pulaski County

Our programs include:
*CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)
*Parent Education--Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (S.T.E.P.)
*Community Education for child abuse prevention.

THE NEED FOR INTERVENTION:  Some localities in the New River Valley have the highest rates of child abuse/neglect in the state of Virginia.  This fact speaks loudly and clearly of the need for advocacy and intervention for the well-being of the children of our community.  NRV CARES, as an extension of a caring community, sheds light on the responsibility that the region has for the welfare of its children.  Through prevention programs and child advocacy, NRV CARES serves these vulnerable citizens.  Through CASA, lives are changed one child at a time.  Through Prevention and Education Programs, NRV CARES' goals are to support families and inform the public about the issue of child welfare.  Our ultimate goal is to create a climate that is protective of children and supportive of families.
