The number is not 1600, but 2600. I was raised in a union family, I know what it is like to worry about my families future, yet to mislead is not the answer. I hate that the union has took this to this level. I am in agreement that the men and women who weather the storm for what they believe in, I am in agreement with fighting for the future, what I disagree with is the union not being straight forward with the public. Example: 100% of 2600 is 2600, yet when they had the meeting at the church (Bob White) the attendance was approx. 1800. I do not believe that everyone is in agreement with the union (that will show in the number come Fri. or Sat.) I do know that Volvo needs to be in the NRV, and yes I do have friends at Volvo, I have brothers and sisters in Christ there, I respect them, I do not respect the unions leadership, and believe if thing are not resolved very soon (This week), you will see my views bloom from within the Volvo faithful. Okay Jerry, in my statement I did not mean that it was wrong to cross the picket line or to go in and make a living. What I meant to say was that it's a tough decision and that it can't be taken as lightly as some posters on here make it out to be. If you are not in this position, then you can't really say what you would do if you had to make the same choice. Dr.B, why don't you explain why you are against this strike. Do you or someone you know work for Volvo? Why do you feel the need to go by the plant and count the number of people out on the picket line? I'm just curious. The truth of the matter is that these people pay monthly union dues to have the support of the union. So the people who are members who stand out in the cold to get a fair contract are also striking for the non union members so to speak. Not because they want to, but it's a fact. The people who are going in to work, and putting down this stike will end up with the same benefits of any new contract that is agreed upon as the union members. Where is the justification in that? There isn't any. So after nearly two months of striking I pray that a good contract will be voted on this weekend. The 2400 was total volvo workers. FYI there are probably around 50 strikers outside every four hours for 24/7. Some union workers are in the union hall as counselors or kitchen workers. The strikers are also divided at different locations or posts. There is no way that volvo could meet producition with only 300 workers. Especially with large orders. Right now maybe they can build 5 trucks a day, but compare that to 150 quality trucks a day. Most won't buy a truck without a UAW sticker on it. When the orders start rolling in for Volvo, then 300 workers won't cut it. Why do you think Volvo lays off employees from time to time. It's because the orders are down. When the orders pick back up, then people are called back. My husband is currently on strike, and doesn't like it one bit. The truth is that you can't just cross a picket line. If you were in the same situation, would you? I really don't think you would. For one thing it could be dangerous, and another thing is that when everyone does go back to work then you would forever be hated and taunted in the work place for being a "scab". Our family needs for my husband to go back to work, but I wouldn't put him in the situation to be a scab. I'd rather him find a new job if worse comes to worse than to make him cross the line. It's not even about pride, but about standing up for what is right. After years of Corporate welfare that gives you a job, your union mislead the public about your 100% union participation. Not all people in Pulaski County is dumb as you all act. Doing the math: Your picket lines average 21 union member during a 24 hour period, you claim to have approx. 2600 memeber on strike in Dublin. The math would actually need 60 members on the line for each 4 hour shift, 7 days a week. Your current average accounts for 882 members holding up their end of the deal for their $200.00. It does not take a "Volvo worker" to figure out that if this is the way the union works within the plant, that Volvo can meet production with only 300 workers.
