New River Land Trust Meeting (6:00PM)
The New River Land Trust has set meetings in Montgomery and Giles Counties to explain conservation easements to landowners. We will explain the current generous tax and cash incentives for protecting farms, forests and open spaces. A conservation easement allows a family to ensure that their land remains as working farm or productive forests while providing limited development rights. A family can harvest the development premium on their land to reinvest in their farm or retirement account while still continuing all the farm’s traditional uses.

Virginia now has the most generous tax incentives for easements in the nation. The Federal Government has also approved the most generous federal tax deductions in history for conserving family lands. The meetings are free and everyone is invited to attend.

The Afromotive Performs At The Lantern On Thursday, November 6 (10:00PM)
The Afromotive Performs at The Lantern on Thursday, November 6th, 2008 The Lantern 211 Draper Rd www.thelanternblacksburg.com 540-951-1019 21+; $12 10pm (Blacksburg, VA) The Afromotive takes the stage at the Lantern on Thursday, November 6th at 10pm. This nine piece afrobeat ensemble fuses funk and extended improv to get everyone on the dancefloor up and moving. Based in Asheville, NC, the Afromotive stays true to the elements that started afrobeat music- West African rhythms, song forms, and instrumentation- while bringing the music to the 21st Century through strong song writing, improvisation, and heavy beats. A fan once said, “It’s sounds like James Brown’s band went to Africa.” Bringing funk music back to its African roots is precisely what the Afromotive is doing with their style of high energy poly-rhythmic afrobeat music. Thirty-third generation djembe player Adama Dembele from Cote d‘Ivoire, West Africa brings his vast musical knowledge and touring experience to the Afromotive. These traditional West African rhythms combined with a mentality for upbeat funk music is what the Afromotive brings to its audiences. Other instrumentalists have been trained in funk, jazz, and classical music as well as extensively studying the rhythms of West Africa; collectively they have created a sound that crosses musical and ethnic boundaries. "It's all about the beat. Primal, horn-heavy, with a percussive punch that blends old school funk with tribal rhythms, the pulsating rhythms of afrobeat have crossed cultures and continents to carve out a groove that has touched the backbone of generations of funk lovers... The sounds of West Africa now resonate through the mountains of North Carolina courtesy of Asheville's The Afromotive." Grant Britt, Creative Loafing. On their debut album "Scare Tactics," The Afromotive takes the raw energy of their live performance into the studio. This album is an elaboration on the language of afrobeat music, yielding a truly unique sound that is rooted in tradition. Afrobeat became popular in the 1970's with Fela Kuti bringing West African Music to the mainstream in America and beyond; The Afromotive will help to move this music even further each time they hit the stage. For more information about the Afromotive, visit www.theafromotive.com. ### Press Contact: Erin Scholze Macro-Management and Publicity www.macro-management.com 828.252.3678 828-776-6248 cell macroerin@gmail.com
