Event: 'Dixie Girls Softball Tournament'

Repeat Event: Every Day until July 09, 2008

July 5th to the 9th. The Radford Parks and Recreation Department will host the District 3 Angels, Ponytails and Dixie Belles Dixie Softball Tournament July 5-9 at Veterans Field in Radford.
Teams from Radford, Botetourt, Montgomery County, Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Giles County will be competing. The games start at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Games on Sunday start at 2:00pm and during the week, all games will start at 6:00pm. Admission is $3 for adults (13 and up), $2 (ages 7-12) and free for those 6 and under.

  • Aerospace engineer earns Oak Ridge Associated Universities Ralph Powe Junior Faculty Award
    Michael Philen, assistant professor of aerospace and ocean engineering at Virginia Tech, has recently received the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Award.
  • Large reservoir of mitochondrial DNA mutations identified in humans
    Researchers at the University of Newcastle, England, and the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute at Virginia Tech in the United States have revealed a large reservoir of mitochondrial DNA mutations present in the general population.
  • Biomedical foundation supports technology aimed at destroying cancer cells
    A new technology, using electric pulses to destroy cancer tissue and named by NASA Tech Briefs as one of seven key technological breakthroughs of 2007, is receiving additional support aimed at moving the procedure to the marketplace. One of its lead developers, Rafael V. Davalos, a faculty member of the Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (SBES), received a $240,000 grant from the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation and $25,000 from the Wake Forest Comprehensive Cancer Center.
