Monday and Thursday, February 4th and 7th at 8:00pm, Radford University presents Messiaen Centennial Concert I and Concert II. Olivier Messiaen was one of the most prolific and original composers of the 20th century. Two concerts celebrate a century since his birth, offering samples of his wide-ranging music – keyboard works for piano and organ, solo pieces for clarinet and flute, vocal and choral selections and instrumental chamber works. Performers include David Allen on clarinet, Carla Copeland-Burns on flute, tenor Donald George, mezzo-soprano Clarity James, pianist Lucy Mauro, organist Marilyn Meador, pianist David Brandon Phillips, RU choral and instrumental ensembles conducted by David Castonguay and Wayne Gallops; narration by David Zuschin and Kathleen and Dick Harshberger. The concert will be held on the campus of Radford University, Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall. Admission is free.
