The Blacksburg Community Band will be hosting its annual Holiday Pops Concert on Sunday December 14th at 4 PM along with the Blacksburg Community Strings, with special guests Cindy and Clay Blevins and the Wilderness Road Chorus of the Sweet Adelines. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Blacksburg High School Auditorium. There will be a reception immediately following the concert.
This concert will feature the Blacksburg Community Band and the Blacksburg Community Strings playing traditional favorites such as Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, A Chanukah Celebration (a collection of Chanukah favorites), and a unique composition called Cornet Carillon, featuring the trumpet section. The Sweet Adelines will sing several seasonal selections in an a cappella style, and local favorites Cindy and Clay Blevins, accompanied by the Blacksburg Community Band, and Blacksburg Community Strings will perform holiday duets, including Baby Its Cold Outside/Let it Snow, by Frank Loesser arranged by John Howell, The Christmas Song, by Mel Tormè & Robert Wells, arranged by John Higgins and White Christmas, by Irving Berlin, arranged by John Moss. To delight the young, and young at heart, our special guest, Santa, will arrive at the end of the show with gifts for all!
The Blacksburg Community Band is an all-volunteer community organization formed in 1989 under the auspices of the Town of Blacksburg, Department of Parks and Recreation. The ensemble performs in an average of 25 concerts each year throughout the New River Valley, reaching over 7,000 people.
