The Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department is holding its annual Open House, Sunday, October 5 from 1-4 p.m., at station #2, 2700 Prices Fork Road.  Light refreshments will be provided by Montgomery Regional Hospital. Bring a camera and take a picture with Firefighter Hokie. Sparky The Fire Dog and Smokey Bear will also make guest appearances. There will be a moon bouncer, balloons, and more! Come out and tour the station and spend Sunday afternoon with your firefighters. This event kicks off National Fire Prevention Week. Your home should be a safe haven. Do you regularly check for home fire hazards? Fire departments responded to nearly 400,000 home fires in 2006. That’s why this years theme is “It’s Fire Prevention Week: Prevent Home Fires!”
